Sarcomas are rare and difficult to treat tumors. Therefore, patients diagnosed with sarcomas are referred to specialized centers and oncologists who are fully dedicated to this malignant disease. Prof. Thomas Brodowicz, who heads the onco-hematology department at the Döbling Private Hospital in Vienna and is also a member of the Department of Clinical Oncology at the Vienna University Hospital, is just such a specialist. His focus as a scientist and practitioner has been on soft tissue and bone sarcomas as well as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) for about thirty years.
Prof. Brodowicz is Director of the Soft Tissue Sarcoma / Bone Sarcoma / GIST Program at the Vienna University Hospital and Deputy Coordinator of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Unit at the Vienna Comprehensive Cancer Center. Various medical research funding organizations, such as the French National Cancer Institute and the City of Vienna Fund for Innovative Cancer Research, engage him as an expert.
Prof. Brodowicz is a member of leading specialized professional associations, including the European Society of Medical Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Sarcoma Platform Austria, the Austrian Society for Hematology and Oncology, and GIST Support Austria.
