Ruth Knuechel-Clarke studied medicine at the University of Cologne from 1977 to 1984. In 1984 she received her PhD in Medicine. She worked as an assistant physician in the pathology department of the Aachen University Clinic. Since 1988, she has worked at the University of Rochester, New York, and the Stanford Institute in the United States as a research assistant. Since 1990, she worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Pathology at the University of Regensburg, where in 1994 she habilitated as a Doctor of Medicine. In 1997, Ruth Knuechel-Clarke became a professor and worked as a senior physician at the Institute of Pathology, University of Regensburg.
In 2002, Ruth Knuechel-Clarke became professor and director of the Institute of Pathology at the University Clinic Aachen.
Dr. Knüchel-Clarke was President of the German Society for Cytometry from 2000 to 2002 and she is also a member of the editorial board of the journal Cytometry.
