Professor Neumann is currently in charge of a university hospital department wich is the main structural unit of Europe’s leading liver and kidney transplant center. Its second major area of expertise is the surgical treatment of malignant tumors. Thanks to close interdisciplinary cooperation, patients with the most complex cancers can benefit from the most advanced treatment strategies.
Prior to taking up his position in Essen, Ulf Neumann spent 17 years as Head of the General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery Department at RWTH Aachen University Hospital, where he was directly involved in the establishment of the Liver Transplant Center where doctors now successfully save the lives of hundreds of patients with severe liver conditions pathologies every year.
Ulf Neumann’s major specialty is complex liver and pancreatic surgery, including liver transplantation.
His research interests include the mechanisms of hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma, treatment of colorectal metastases, liver regeneration.
Professor Neumann is a member of several specialized professional societies, including the International Society of Liver Transplantation, the International Association of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery, the German Society of Surgery, the German Society for Tissue Transplantation and the German Association for Liver Research. He is on the editorial board of Frontiers in Oncology and Digestive Surgery, and is a reviewer for many international journals such as Gastroenterology, Journal of Hepatology, Surgical Oncology, International Journal of Colorectal Disease.
